Description: The Naples, Illinois Observer Newspaper published the reenactment of Grant's March to Fame. Grant left Springfield, Illinois on July 3, 1861 and arrived in Naples, Illinois on July 6, 1861. This souvenir issue was instigated by the reenactment of Grant's March, June 10, 1977 to June 12, 1977.

The U.S. Postal Service created a special 1st day cancellation for June 10, 1977 at Springfield, Illinois; June 11, 1977 at Jacksonville, Illinois: and June 12, 1977 at Naples, Illinois. Phil Wagner was given a special contract from the U.S. Post Office to carry and "cancel" special envelopes or other items to which a stamp was affixed. Phil would cancel these items. He had the opportunity to cancel his sign and this special souvenir issue of the Naples Observer. These tabloids have all three special U.S. Postal cancellations, and one is framed under glass.
