40-1-34
75 pages of Down to Earth Sayings by Lincoln
and Other Common Folks. Betty Canterbury was a school teacher
and librarian. Over a 30-year period, she saved various "sayings"
and placed them in categories. She was unable to find a publisher,
so Phil Wagner agreed, only if he could put the first chapter in
the book, based on the Abraham Lincoln quotes researched by Dr.
Wayne Temple and illustrated by Lloyd Ostendorf. A deal was made,
and Phil Wagner purchased all rights to the work and published 5,000
books. He commissioned Ostendorf to do the cover and the ink art
work for the entire book. The book's back cover shows the Lincoln
Heritage Trail and the three walking Lincolns.
