Subject:
"All the little Colt revolvers would have grown into horse
pistols."
Description:
President Lincoln, standing in telegraph office. A message
came into the War Department that a skirmish with the enemy yielded
the capture of 30 prisoners, all armed with Colt revolvers. President
Lincoln commented with a twinkle in his eye that the dispatch would
likely be exaggerated later by the newspapers. "All the little
Colt revolvers would have grown into horse pistols."
Lincoln quotes by Dr. Wayne Temple; text by Betty
