Subject:
Abe Lincoln, the Postmaster, delivering mail on the Post
Road in New Salem area.
This
ink and wash was commissioned by Phil Wagner to be used to promote
a fund raiser for the D.E.A.F. Association (hearing disabled). The
ink and wash was used on the cover of a Special Edition of the book,
Abraham Lincoln, The Boy - The Man, authored and illustrated by
Ostendorf. For the 150th anniversary of Lincoln as a postmaster,
500 copies were printed.
A
22 mile pilgrimage was made from New Salem to Athens, IL to Springfield,
IL to honor Abe, the Postmaster. President Reagan sent a letter
to be carried over the Post Road to help draw attention to this
worthy cause. The Springfield Postmaster was presented with this
Presidential letter.
