Subject: Governor James R. Thompson, signing 140th anniversary proclamation.
Description: Governor of Illinois, seated, signing the 140th (not the 141) anniversary proclamation commemorating Abraham Lincoln and the Long Nine Banquet at Athens, IL August 3, 1837-1977. Artist drew Lincoln in the ink and wash on the opposite side of the Governor's wife portrait with Lincoln. The Governor's Lincoln had a beard, whereas Mrs. Thompson was joined with a young Lincoln.
