Subject: Abraham Lincoln, Assistant Parade Marshal

Description: Abraham Lincoln served as assistant marshal for the Fourth of July parade in 1839, which ended at the unfinished State House on the public square in Springfield, where James C. Conkling spoke. Part of the parade band members are in the background, in front of the old State Capitol.
