The Main Gate of the
Illinois State Fairgrounds

The Illinois State Fair is held in Springfield every August on a 156-acre site on Springfield’s north end. The main entrance is a graceful gateway recently restored by fwai architects and depicted on the 1997 Springfield City Ornament in 24-karat gold-plate. These ornaments, issued in a limited edition of 7,500, come with a signed and numbered certificate containing a brief summary of the state fair’s history.
